New SOUNDGARDEN Album 'Doesn't Sound Like A Throwback'

October 7, 2011

According to The Pulse Of Radio, SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell says in a new video interview with RollingStone.com (see below) that the band's first album in almost 16 years is "mostly done" and that it feels like the band "haven't missed a beat." Describing the "personality" of the new disc, Cornell said, "It's very warm to me and adventurous like all our albums were. It doesn't sound like a throwback to any previous period and we're definitely approaching songs in different ways than we've done... but we always did that from album to album so it feels like the genuine next step to me. It doesn't feel nostalgic, it feels forward."

Cornell said the new album should be out in the spring of 2012.

The vocalist also said he doesn't really know why it took the band 12 years to reunite, explaining, "I feel like SOUNDGARDEN can continue... and probably should have always had the attitude of being a formed functioning band that just needed a break. With SOUNDGARDEN my feeling always was that as long as it was a unanimous decision and everyone was really into it that it was always possible that we could get back together."

SOUNDGARDEN reunited last year after disbanding in 1997. The band's last album of all-new material was 1996's "Down On The Upside".

Cornell will release his own acoustic live album called "Songbook" on November 21. It features 16 tracks, including covers and material from all stages of Cornell's career.

Cornell's second round of solo acoustic dates will begin on November 1 in Memphis and follows up his first such trek, which took place last spring.
